The Middle East Policy Advisory Committee, MEPAC, is a coalition of organizations whose mission is to support Congressional action pertaining to US foreign policy in the Middle East, especially policy relating to the Israeli/Palestinian conundrum. MEPAC’s function is to inform and educate members of congress and their staffs about the political and economic realities in the Middle East. Each organization has its particular field of expertisese, be it political, social, spiritual, academic or economic, but all share the deepest concern for the advancement of human rights and the resolution of injustices in accordance with internaional principles in a way which would restore confidence in US foreign policy.  The MEPAC coalition includes:

Americans for a Palestinian State Political Action Committee is dedicated to supporting members of congress willing to work for a just solution to the Israeli Palestinians conflict. We have 31 members in congresswomen's Lee's district and approx. 160 in the Bay Area.

Beyt Tikkun is a spiritually alive community dedicated to the Jewish principles of tikkun olam -- the obligation to be involved in healing and transforming the world. We are part of a growing Jewish renewal movement that seeks to reclaim Judaism from materialism, conformism, and spiritual deadness.

Ecumenical Peace Institute -- This is an interfaith, interracial peace and justice organization that is a local chapter of Clergy and Laity Concerned, which was co-founded by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We have a mailing list of about 1100 and 450 of these are in Barbara Lee's district.

Faculty For Israeli Palestinian Peace (FFIPP) is a network of faculty endeavoring to achieve a just peace and an end to occupation in Israel/Palestine. FFIPP’s activities include organizing symposia in universities to discuss the Middle East situation; arranging faculty delegations to Israel and Palestine; and assisting Palestinian universities with certain of their immediate needs.  FFIPP is an international organization. In the US, its membership numbers in the many hundreds.  The UC Berkeley campus has dozens of active members.  The Berkeley campus is also home to a number of student groups devoted to peace and justice in the region (including Students for Justice in Palestine, Berkeley Stop the War Coalition, Tzedek and Tikkun-Taqween) with a total membership of several hundred.

Friends of Sabeel - North America (FOSNA) was formed to support Sabeel, a Palestinian Christian peace movement founded in Jerusalem based on ecumenical grassroots liberation theology. Sabeel also works to promote a more accurate international awareness regarding the identity, presence, and witness of Palestinian Christians and supports a just resolution based on existing international law and UN resolutions. We have membership of 6,000 nationwide, 900 in California and 51 in the Berkeley, Hayward and Oakland area.

Jews for a Free Palestine (JFFP) is a Bay Area-based grassroots membership organization of Jews committed to working for a just peace in Israel/Palestine. JFFP uses public education, grassroots organizing, and action to support the movement for Palestinian liberation and the realization of our major objectives: 1) An end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza; 2) Recognition of the right of return for Palestinians refugees, guaranteed under international law and UN resolutions; 3) An end to the apartheid nature of the state of Israel; 4) An end to U.S. military and economic aid to Israel until these other objectives are achieved. JFFP is a member of the Bay Area Justice in Palestine Coalition.

Jewish Voice For Peace (JVFP) – Through grassroots organizing, education, advocacy, and media outreach, JVFP works to achieve a lasting peace that recognizes the aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians for security and self determination. JVFP works to promote a U.S. foreign policy on peace democracy, human rights, and respect for international law.

Middle East Children’s Alliance ( MECA) is a humanitarian aid organization working for a just peace in the Middle East. For 16 years it has been our mission to support children's projects in the OPT and bring medical aid to Iraq, while raising awareness about the political processes behind much of the suffering.  We have a membership of 5,000 nationwide.

National Lawyers Guild is an association of more than 6000 lawyers, law students, and legal workers dedicated to the need for basic change in the structure of our political and economic system. Its mission is to be an effective political and social force in the service of the people, to the end that human rights shall be regarded as more sacred than property interests. Our aim is to bring together all those who recognize the importance of safeguarding and extending the rights of workers, women, farmers and minority groups, upon whom the welfare of the entire nation depends; who seek actively to eliminate racism; who work to maintain and protect our civil rights and liberties in the face of persistent attacks upon them; and who look upon the law as an instrument for the protection of the people, rather than for their repression.  We have 6,000 national members and our local chapter has 1,000 members.

Interfaith PeaceBuiders has 150 members and is a program sponsored by The Fellowship of Reconciliation which is an interfaith and international peace movement of more than 8,000 members and with branches and groups in over 40 countries.

International Solidarity Movement (ISM) is a Palestinian-led movement of Palestinian and international volunteers working to raise awareness of the struggle for Palestinian freedom and to end the Israeli occupation.  We use nonviolent direct-action methods of resistance to confront and challenge illegal Israeli occupation forces and policies.  We have a membership of 1000 locally, 5000 nationally, and 20,000 worldwide.

St. Joseph the Worker Social Justice Committee was founded by the late Father Bill O'Donnell in the 80's.  Our purpose is to promote social justice, locally, nationally and in the world. We have been actively involved in issues that affect Central America, Haiti, the Middle East etc. Some of the causes we have supported include closing the School of the Americas in Georgia, justice for farm workers and immigrant rights, anti-death penalty efforts, anti-nuclear demonstrations and support for labor unions. There are about 25 members of the Social Justice Committee and St. Joseph the worker Parish has approximately 1400 registered households.

US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation is a diverse coalition of 150 groups working for freedom from occupation and equal right for all by challenging US policy towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The campaign is based on human rights and international law, providing a non-sectarian framework for everyone who supports its call to action. Its strategy is to inform, educate, and mobilize the public so as to change the US role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to support peace, justice, human rights, and international law. The coalition represents more than tens of thousands of members of individual groups.
